Include Pages:

Rather than use shared borders or FrontPage web-bot navigation, we prefer "includes" for their flexibility. You will find the following items within the include folder:

Global Top Navigation
Main Navigation Links
Footer Items (copyright and links)

Open the page, edit your text, then save the page. Your changes will be reflected on every page. As you edit your include pages, double-check to make sure that FrontPage has not added paragraph tags before and after your changes. If this happens, delete any <P> or </P> which can cause some minor display issues in Firefox.

Style Sheets and Classes:

Each table cell within this template uses a CSS class to format the information contained within it. You can find which class was used by right-clicking in a table cell and selecting Cell Properties. In the window that appears, click on the Style Button. Under "Class" you will see the name of the name of the class we used. In FrontPage 2003, you can easily see which classes and/or IDs are applied to specific areas if you look at the "Quick Tag Selector" bar or the Style toolbar.

Form Email address:

To receive the contact page form results via email you must edit the form properties and add your email address. Right-click on the form and select Form Properties from the menu. Click on the Options button. In the dialog box click on the Email tab. Type your email in the space next to "email address". Click OK to close the windows. If you are working on a disk based web (without a server on your local computer), you will receive a prompt that there are no server extensions installed and then be asked if you wish to remove the email address. Select "NO" to this option.

Before You Publish:

Change the page title on the home page and as appropriate on any other pages.
Reset any form properties so that you receive any form emails rather than us.
Preview all pages by going to File > Preview in Browser. It's a good idea to check your site in more than one browser.
Either delete or modify the keywords and description meta tags on each page.
Spell check each page.

Template Information:

As far as we know, there are no limitations in how you choose to use our templates. You can add as many pages as necessary, remove our link bars and add your own, or use a scripting language. The only limits are your own knowledge of FrontPage, HTML, and CSS.

"Logo" Header Image:

Our logo/top header image is used as the header cell background. This template comes with a layered Photoshop (PSD) file that you can edit to suit your needs. The logo/icon is one one layer, the business name is on another, and the slogan is on another layer. You can delete layers, add your own, and make other modifications so that this image is unique to your site. Save your modified image as "logoimage.jpg" in the Images folder of your web. The new image will overwrite our sample image.

Shockwave/Flash Movie:

We have added a Shockwave/Flash animation at the top of each page. The text can be easily changed by editing the external_text.txt file. Edit only the text shown in red in our example below.

The movie background image is called from the images folder. If you replace our mainimage.jpg with your own, it will replace the image in the movie. Note that your new image must be the same dimensions as our original (500 x 210 pixels).

SWF Object Detection Script:

This template uses the SWFObject (v1.4) Flash detection and embed script provided by Geoff Stearns at http://blog.deconcept.com/swfobject/. This script detects whether or not your visitor has the Flash player, and if it does, it loads in the Flash movie for them to view. If they don't have the Flash player, it displays your alternate content. We have set the alternate content to show the static main image). The SWFObject script also resolves the IE update issue where embedded Flash movies require an extra click for interaction; using the script will allow viewers to interact with the Flash movie directly. The SWFObject script also allows your web site to have fully validated HTML. Please be aware that the script may be updated occasionally, and it is your responsibility to visit the SWFObject site to check for updates and implement them.

Adding New Pages:

1. Copy an existing Page (recommended): This is useful if you have inserted a logo graphic and made other layout changes that you want to apply to all the new pages that you are creating. Open a page that has the layout the way you want it, then go to File/Save As. Save the page under a new name and save the page title as well. Then go to Navigation View and drag your new page into the navigation structure.

2. Create a new page template: Open any existing htm page, remove the content text, and then click File/Save As. From the dropdown choose FrontPage Template (.tem). This will add a new page template to your available templates.

Changing Page Names:

You can change the file name (aboutus.htm) from within the folder view. You can change the page title (About Us) by right-clicking on an open page and selecting Page Properties from the menu. Change the name in the Title field and click OK.

Editing Your Pages:

To edit each page, simply delete our text and replace it with your own. Work carefully so that you do not drag or move any table or cell edges. If you accidentally move an element, click on the "Undo" icon and begin again. We recommend that you test your changes frequently by going to File > Preview in Browser.
